IDNs - So you think you know the language, do you?
I’ve not invested in any IDNs ( Internationalized Domain Names ) or tried to park them for PPC. I’ve always thought that I am probably missing out on a goldmine, but my lack of knowledge of the languages and cultures involved has stopped me from moving in that direction.
I was lurking on NamePros recently, merely reading all the posts from the people who really know what they’re talking about ( something I do everyday ), when a conversation topic swung towards IDNs, which was so educational for me, I had to copy some of it to here ( with permission of course ). My main reason for doing so is that I wanted to comment on this, but I didn’t want to divert the forum thread topic. Also, forum threads can be closed / deleted or I can easily lose them amongst the ocean of content on NamePros.
The conversation centred on IDNs in Indian languages, and was essentially carried out between one person not from India who appeared to be heavily invested in Indian IDNs and two people who are from India, but are not invested. I am not particularly concerned with who is wrong and who is right, as I have no IDNs, however the details which came out in the conversation have reinforced my original inclination to avoid investing in languages / cultures which are not totally my own, as my knowledge is inadequate and it is likely that even a large amount of research would still not provide enough knowledge.
Enough of my blather, here are the posts:
Beginning Of The Month Parking Slump
I’ve noticed that at NameDrive, the first week of the month is pretty much a bust. Almost no earnings, but then it ramps up every week, and the final week is the best earning.
Optimizing Your Earnings From Parked Domains Tip#2
I’ve been neglecting this site for a while, too many things to do, not enough time!
Domain Parking Tip number 2 is:
Move your domains around to find the highest earning parking company for each domain.
Active Audience - Weird Traffic
I’ve only pointed a few names to Active Audience, as I’m reluctant to move the ones which are making consistent earnings at NameDrive and ParkingPanel.
The ones I do have at Active Audience usually get a steady trickle of traffic thought, and the clicks are usually worth a decent amount ( well they were getting okay EPC at revenue direct )
Active Audience - Accepted
I wasn’t accepted for the ActiveAudience parking program when I first applied, I think because I was honest and said I had some adult domain names. ( their TOS are very strict, even once you are accepted, names you add to your account have to be accepted )
However, Afternic recently moved all their domain name parking services to Active Audience, and as I was a paid up member of Afternic, I received an ActiveAudience account.
It will be interesting to see if I was missing out on anything after all!
Revenue Direct - Good CPC, Hard to Use
I’ve decided to move the domains I had parked at Revenue Direct. They were paying much higher CPC than some other places but in the end, I just couldn’t get to grips with their reporting system. For me, it was just a constant irritation using their domain parking interface.
I also was not very impressed with their parked page templates, but that is probably because I simply could not figure how to use their system to full advantage.
So in conclusion, if you want to be accepted right away, get high click rates, and don’t mind figuring out their interface, then Revenue Direct is still a good option.
Next Up - RevenueDirect
I signed up with RevenueDirect yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised that they didnt ask me all kinds of questions about how many domains I have and ask me to list my best 10 e.t.c
Then I was really surprised that my account was ready to use right away, no need to wait for any application acceptance!
I’ve only added a couple of domains right now, just to test out the service - I have to admit the interface is not the most straightforward I have used, but there do seem to be a great set of options.
I’ll park a few more domains there and over the next month or two see how the revenue compares to other parking services, but so far, my first impression is that RevenueDirect is a great service!
Direct Search Traffic Is Sustainable
Very good news for domain parking!
Direct search traffic is:
- Growing at a 35% annual rate compounded
- A long term, sustainable source of quality traffic
- Used by 2 thirds of the worlds 1 Billion internet users
But don’t take my word for it:

NameDrive - Domain Parking Results after 2 Months
I’ve been parking domain names at NameDrive for a couple of months now, with mixed results. I’ve found their CTR to be great, but the CPC is often low - especially for adult domain names, however, I have been getting some high paying clicks on my insurance names.
Their real time reporting ( CPC is estimated, and then confirmed after 48 hours) is very useful when you need to make a quick decision wether or not to drop a domain.
I’ll definitely keep parking domains at NameDrive, but I recommend moving your domains around several parking providers to see where they perform best.
Make the most from your parked domains Tip#1
I’ve been parking domains for nearly 6 months now, and I’d like to think I’ve learned a thing or two about how to get the most money out of it.
Time to start sharing!
Tip #1 Keep changing your keywords
Don’t just set and forget your domains. Either use an auto optimization service, or check your keywords every few days.
Compare them to what people are bidding for - Google provide a free tool which allows you to do just that.
Sometimes the difference between a singular and plural form of a keyword can make a big difference in the earnings.
